Overview:
Since the end of July, the Germans had reached the Crimea and the outskirts of Odessa. The Russians fought tooth and nail but, day after day, the perimeter defense narrowed. Using their fleet on the Black Sea, the Soviet command decided to launch a counter-attack supported by a landing to the rear of the 9th Romanian cavalry brigade. The 22nd of September, while the 426th Infantry Division attacked towards the east of Odessa, the 3rd Regiment of sailors of the Black Sea Fleet was beached close to Grigorievka at 0200. Arriving without mishap in the outskirts of the village, the company of Lieutenant Tcharoup launched the assault at 0800.Attacker: Russian (3rd Regiment, Black Sea Fleet Marines)

| 2021-07-10 | (A) Andy Goldin | vs | Stephen Frum | Romanian win | As the Russian attacker I had success using my OBA to prevent Stephen's HMG and supporting squads from taking shots at me as I pushed him out of the village on Board 3. The best tool to go after the Romanian howitzers was my own OBA. Unfortunately for me, Stephen shrewdly placed his howitzers in blind hexes so that was not an option, which meant I had to use infantry (only) to get after them. Leaving my MMG, 9-1 and a few squads behind to finish clearing the multi-level building on Board 3, I managed to get 50% of my force to Board 4 on Turn 6... whereupon two Romanian howitzers went on rate tears, breaking all five squads. With insufficient time to rally and make another attempt at the guns, it was over and another Romanian victory. I recommend playing with the Russian balance, which gives the attacker another turn to get the job done and is needed, in my opinion. HUMAN WAVE 2021 | ||
