Overview:
To reach Carentan, the Americans would have to cross a causeway carrying the highway from Saint-Comte-du-Mont through the low-lying swamps. As the 3rd Battalion of the "Screaming Eagles" pushed toward the town, Germans in a grouping of farmhouses sheltered by hedgerows poured rifle and machinegun fire into the exposed Americans. They were pinned down and subjected to withering fire whenever they attempted to move forward. Lt.-Colonel Bob Cole finally tired of the steady losses and radioed for a smoke barrage on the farm complex. And ordered his men to fix bayonets.Attacker: American (3rd Battalion, 502nd PIR)

The Americans came on under cover of some well placed smoke and were able to wipe out the initial German force and set up a solid defense in the buildings before the German reinforcements came on. A couple of entering German stacks got taken out by the American kills stacks and then were hit hard by the OBA. Germans conceded in turn 4. Fun scenario with nice give and take, with both sides having a chance to attack. Pretty tough for the Germans if the Americans can take the town early. | ||

The Observer called down Smoke on the P4 building so that the Germans couldn't use their FP against it. This left the surrounding buildings virtually unprotected and the Germans launched an assault on them. A US HS and a leader KIA-ed a German 548 squad and broke two others. These failed to rally and were then eliminated for failure to rout. Although the Germans still outnumbered the US units, the OBA was lurking and the US were spreading out to garrison the VC buildings. | ||
