In the wake of the Liberation of Paris, the 3rd Armored Division poured across the river Seine at Tilly, thanks to an existing bridge, and a new one built by XX Corps engineers. The division’s two main Combat Commands (A and B) immediately deployed into multiple spearheads and pushed northeast, advancing several miles. Forward units of the 33rd Armored Regiment were laagered overnight in a quiet grove east of the town of Corbiel when, at first light, the peace of the early morning was shattered as units of the Reconnaissance Company were suddenly subjected to a vicious attack. Jolted awake, panic ensued among the “doughs” as a platoon of Mark IVs and a scratch kampfgruppe of infantry attacked from the east.

Killed the last German tank on the final turn by rolling a 4 to hit. Tough fight all the way through though.

Germans were aggressive with two tanks right from the start and lost them both in CC with the US 9-2 leader. The Germans ended up taking two buildings but by they the Americans had two HMGs in the last building along with a MMG and three squads and two crews. Even with SMOKE the building became a fortress and the Germans were not able to rout them out.

Very astute defence by the Americans: they basically withdrew from two of the three victory buildings (although not without losses) to concentrate on the defence of building 53R6. By the time I was ready to attack this stronghold, his tanks had arrived in support and two of my tanks (the two that mattered) were out of Smoke. I had some good shots (and lots of boxcars, but mostly from the blaze in the orchard, which didn't matter), and advanced towards the southern side of this key building quite successfully. But I failed to establish any strength north of the building, meaning I couldn't bring fire to bear on 53S7. And I had taken losses too, so by the start of Turn 6 I had lost two tanks to his three; but I had only 3.5 unbroken squads remaining, and they were poorly situated, whilst a more powerful American force still occupied that building. A German win might have been theoretically possible, but it would have taken a miracle, so I conceded.

Again! The importance of actually readin the scenario card. American setup made it possible for the Germans to kill a HT and break a bazooka unit straight off the bat. Salvageble! A German stack rushed south to capture the church which gave the Americans the possibility to advance in concealed against Cx units and with numerical superiority. The end result was an American squad dead along its leader and no German casualties despite to combat locations. After that, fate rally took more Amrican casualties and the combination of poor setup and bad dice made me give up at turn two.

Crazy dice gave me early advantage 4 American HS broken. Pz4 had no smoke but I got a critical hit on American 667+Baz and by GT 3 had eliminated all but 1.5 US squads. Armor battle made it close as the Shermans took out 2 Pz4 w no losses but PSK and PF stopped the Sherman threat. The remaining Pz4 got the 2 M20s and sealed the win

American sniper helped the cause by taking out an 8-1 (LLMC broke 1.5 squads) early and recalling one Pz4 in turn 1. Both American halftrack crew abandoned, taking the MA with them. The 9-2 was paired with the 50 cal. Germans took two victory buildings and were in the third, but it was obvious the American reinforcing AFV would swing the scenario to the Americans so German concession.

Quick win for Germans. Helped by some missed LOS during US Setup and a lucky break with sniper killing off 9-2 leader T1. Aggressive push and some melee results in German favor = win. Hard one for the US.

German offense fell apart fairly quickly due to a missed LOS on my part early on which broke a couple of units and a leader, and I didn't use my tanks very effectively (still working on that!) Tried a desparation freeze sleaze move in turn 4 before the American tanks could arrive in town, but that went poorly, so conceded at the start of turn 5. Learned some good lessons from Carl, including how to thoroughly dismantle an American AFV and strip it of all its weaponry - bazookas galore! vAlbany 2020 - round 3.
