The Soviet 11th Guards Army was closing in on the German forces in the area of Orel and threatening to annihilate the 383rd Infantry Division. The commander of the Ninth Army sent Schwere Panzerjager Abteilung 653 to restore the rapidly deteriorating situation. Leutnant Heyn deployed his few Elefant tank destroyers to defend against the inevitable Russian tank assault. The Elefant crews did not have to wait long. The Soviet 1st Tank Corps struck the 383rd Division on its boundary with the 292nd Infantry Division.
Attacker: Russian (117th Tank Brigade and 1437th SU Regiment, 1st Tank Corps)
Defender: German (Infanterie Regiment 532, Infanterie Division 383 and Kompanie 2, Schwere Panzerjäger Abteilung 653)
Rare to have a plan that works exactly as intended, but my Elefant ambushes worked perfectly.

I did not put the key Elefant pieces in good locations. As well, when I revealed the first one, it missed an easy an easy shot, got the IF kill, but it was eliminated soon after. I stupidly put the second one on board for a shot that had a blocked LOS. I conceded after that.

Darren Kovacs of Victoria BC and I decided to dice for sides. I received the attacking Russians. Darren set up a very good defence that appeared a bit stronger in the stone building complex. I tried a complete right side attack, almost along the board edge. It limited Darren's shots a bit, but it took too long. Darren did a great job of adjusting his defence to follow my attack. He also used many HS to make my mission harder. After four and a bit turns, the Russians had cleared only one building and were seriously threatening a second, but with few German casualties, so I conceded.

Good game, initial rider rush, coupled with a T34 MA rate tear smashed the compound defence early and the Germans never recovered...
