While refueling and reloading shells expended during the raid on Arras, a tank crew belonging to Lt. Harold McGreggor was brewing tea when they were alerted to the presence of a German column advancing along the road into the rear areas north of Arras. McGreggor quickly organized the Security and Supply Company into fire teams while his crew finished loading the last of the 40mm shells into their racks. As McGreggor mounted his tank, the sounds of approaching motorcycles could be heard. A cloud of dust and roar of engine noise announced their arrival as dozens of motorcycles appeared at the end of the street. McGreggor lowered his head through the hatch and ordered his Matilda into motion.

Excellent little scenario, and couldn't have been closer. My ammo trucks might have slowed the Germans a bit but otherwise did little - just broke one squad. My Matilda on the other hand did a fine job, and by turn 5 all four German tanks were either wrecked or immobilised. However, this was offset by mistakes I made with the infantry, mostly by putting them on level 1 in rowhouses, where it was very difficult for them to get out.
As a result, the German infantry swept forward, and by the final German player-turn - aided by some poor British defensive fire - had moved into close combat with all of my few remaining infantry units. But then in the final CC, I got lucky with a lone 7-0 leader who managed to roll an ambush, allowing him to escape downstairs, and then into an adjacent building in my final MPh. Here he survived a hail of German fire (although not at great odds) in the last German DFPh to hang on for victory. Fun scenario, very fortunate win.

The Valentine had several shots on my HD tanks, hitting the wall each time! The Germans had time to root our the HIP squad and break everyone else, finally taking out the Valentine in CC on the last turn.

The main german attack hit the Northern British flank and drove and early wedge. The Matilda then malfunctioned its gun followed by a disable result on the repair attempt. With thee the Matilda recalled and the Germans firmly in place to break open the the British centre and left Brian conceded. We immediately set up to play this one again.

Second game played in the same day. The German attack in the north was slowed somewhat in the early stages by a snipe kill of an 8-0 along with pins and breaks but the southern thrust at bldg Z7 went extremely well. By the end of British turn three the northern attack was ready to clear the square while but two tanks had been lost. The southern attack had effectively cleared Z7 and was ready to push forward.
The generally favourable dice turned at this point and while turn 4 saw the square cleared the British got away with only the loss of the MMG crew (228). The southern attack crossed the road to W8 and prepared to move to support the main attack. The turn 5 attack across the square was a disaster for the Germans. 2, 4 FP attacks with low (or no) DRMs and 6+2 from the Matilda's CMG pretty much broke every German moving forward. This left the final attempt on turn six short of infantry and the remaining British infantry in building W3 (2 squads, a 228 and 7-00 held off the attack. In the south a brief British dash into building F7 was dealt with by the remaining German forces in the area that could not add much to the attack up north.
A hard won but clear British win.

I was playing the defending British. What to do with those Ammo Trucks I found quite difficult to determine. So I intended to use them as blocks to the German advance hoping to deter the enemy to get too close to them. This is not easily done, as they can endanger friendly troops close by if the blow up. Sure enough, one was attacked and destroyed (but did not blow up). After delving into the rules, we determined that an attempt to blow up the wreck is N/A. The other Ammo Truck was parked in a way that the Germans had a very difficult time to gain LOS to it without prior entry into its "detonation radius". Nice plan, but I forgot that an unarmed vehicle is automatically captured in CC. Due to CC vs. vehicles being sequential, there was no chance of "attacking back" by blowing the thing up. Doh! Besides this, the Germans avoided my Mathilda like the plague. Thus there were no tank losses on either side when the game ended. With the powerful German tanks being around, there was not much opportunity for the British to move about. Nevertheless, I managed to corner 1.5 broken German squads with an audacious thrust forward which were subsequently eliminated for Failure to Rout. The lone German leader awaiting to rally them, was then despached in CC. On the other hand, the Germans managed to flank the "big" building which was held by no less than 3.5 squads, the MMG and further supported by the 228+ATR. One of the squads was broken during enemy Prep Fire. All the rest were unable to score *any* effect on Germans moving ADJACENT despite 10 attacks, only one of which at +2, two at +1 and the rest at 0 DRM. This was the turning point of the game as it spelled doom on the big building. Sure enough, the Germans were able to retaliate in the AFPh and then in CC, rolling Snakes to eliminate my 447+MMG and generating an 8-1 leader to add insult to the injury. With this, the key building and close to half the British force was reduced within one turn. I managed to extract some brokies, but they would be unlikely to come back quickly as they could be kept under DM. Thus looking at my chances, I conceded after the Rally Phase of German Turn 4. Somewhat unusual scenario. Probably more rewarding to play as the Germans.

I sent about half my forces north and half south (including half the tanks). My thought with them was to drive them through the one-hex woods in Z10 and swing around back to create rout issues. He of course swung his Matilda to cover the road there but that was all right as it was stuck there pulling guard duty. It did unfortunately still have good LOS to the stone building and my infantry had to be careful. In the north my infantry had the same onus trying to stay at distance from what could only be both ammo trucks. Between them, the AA gun, the Matilda, a lot of upper levels, and HIP units the Germans' really do have a tough nut to crack in this one. By Turn 3 though both fronts were pretty well in hand, so next on the agenda were the Matilda and gun. There was also of course a blazing wreck (thankfully only one) that hopefully would not spread too quickly and take away the nice cover of the stone building. Turn 4 saw a valiant HS and leader step into CC with the Matilda and immobilize it. Alas they were eliminated in the process (That 9-2 AL is nasty). That allowed my tank, which had been holding tight there, free reign to roam the backyard. The crew was finally busted as well so all that was left was crossing the streets and storming the last British strongholds that were the two rowhouses. Thankfully I had protected my tanks well and had them all at my disposal (two of them having great smoke potential). It was still a bit of work as his remaining crew passed about 6 or 7 1MCs before breaking! Ultimately though I had too much smoke, too many vehicles, and too many troops for him to successfully hold me off. In the end he had one remaining good order squad whom I tied up in CC, thus gaining a German victory.

I didn't have much luck in the opening and he ended up surrounding me with the tanks. I was able to dispatch a few tanks, but he did a good job of whittling down my force to nothing. I lost in turn 4 or so.

I had to many high rolls and James took good advantage of them. I still managed to take out three Tanks but failed to do the same to the infantry. James took prisoners every oppertunity.
