Overview:
German anti-tank units had been recently finding that their ability to destroy Soviet armor had been compromised by a sudden increase in the numbers of tanks that were impervious to their anti-tank guns. Too many recent examples of martyred German soldiers trying to stand their ground against the upgraded Soviet tanks had convinced German authorities to make changes. In late June the 13th Panzer Division finally got an opportunity to refit their mobile Anti-Tank Battalion with the new Marder tank destroyer. This would allow them to finally stand up to the newer versions of the Soviet AFVs with which they were beginning to have to contend. And not a moment too soon; OKW had tasked Army Group A with the capture and exploitation of the vast oilfields near Grozny.Attacker: Russian (151st Rifle Division/Russian Tank Corps)
Defender: German (1st Panzerjäger Abteilung, 13th Panzer Division and 11th Infantry Division)

2024-01-13 | (D) Paolo Cariolato | vs | Guido Guerra | German win | I played this classic with Guido who has been playing for three years, his attack was not very coordinated, and he tried to force his way with brute force against the bulk of german defenders, it didn't went well for him. After he lost his third KV he rightly conceded. This scenario is pure chance, if the marders get the right TK roll it's game over in flash if they don't they can be obliterated by the mortar and if not my russian fire when they come at shooting distance. This is a dull scenario, There are better scenario to play.

2023-10-29 | (D) Darren Adam | vs | German win | Russian conceded during Russian Turn 4 when he lost his last KV, with both Marders still in action A game of wild dice rolls - opening mortar fire resulted in German 9-1 becoming a Heroic 9-2... Marders set up out of LOS of potential Russian mortar locations, and would not come out until the HMG had removed that threat (which it did early on). The HMG set up of top floor of building M7 to cover the large hill in case the mortar set up on it. Which it did. The HMG removed the mortar on turn one, allowing a Marder to get up on the center German hill and go Hull Down. Both Marders Intensive Fired every chance they got, and eventually took the KVs down without loss (although one Marder malfed its MA twice during the game, but repaired it both times). A Sniper took care of the Russian 9-1 leader early on. The 247 manning the HMG broke on Turn 3. The Heroic 9-2 then kicked them off the gun and took over it himself to stem the Russian hordes. And promptly rolled a 12...
2023-04-08 | (D) Jim Bishop | vs | Tony Gibson | Russian win | So when I say I did not enjoy this, it is not a reflection of playing Tony. I enjoy playing Tony and from that perspective, it was an evening well spent. The scenario however, is pretty unbalanced in my opinion. If the Marders set up on the hill, the Russian 50mm mortar can easily take out one in the first turn PFPh. With some fortune, the mortar could know them both out. After you abandon the hill, there are just too many Russians and too much time. Once the Marders lose APCR, the TK chances against the KVs become dicey and 17 VP off isn't that hard. I think a solid Russian player wins this 70% of the time.
2023-02-19 | (A) Dave Mareske | vs | James Treu | Russian win | Sadly a short game. The RUS MTR first immobilized and then burning wrecked one Marder and the other malfed a MA on an HE shot the then disabled the gun on the repair attempt. The RUS INF moved up the left flank with the KVs moving up the center of the board. But James conceded with no way to eliminate the KVs.
2022-03-31 | (D) Alexey Kolleganov | vs | Dmitry Klyuykov | Russian win
2022-03-31 | (A) Dmitry Klyuykov | vs | Alexey Kolleganov | Russian win (VASL Log) | Marders were setup on the hill, so Russian tanks carefully stalked behind the orchards, while infantry croached through the larger woods. Lucky hit of Russian mortar took one Marder out from equation, so KVs found a moment to rush, losing only one vehicle. Infantry changed the flank and evaded German HMG under the cover of grain fields.
2022-03-19 | (D) Dmitry Klyuykov | vs | Fedor Melnikov | German win
2022-03-11 | (D) Ben Jones | vs | Bruno Vazquez | German win | Short, easy, not that complex. Reminds me of my first wife. The battle starts during the setup, 50mm vs Marder. After that its pretty free form. Enjoyable. Would happily switch sides and play again. 1.5 hours and its decided. Fuck Putin.
2021-08-09 | (D) Jason Nichols | vs | Eric Topp | German win | The Germans lost one Marder on the first Russian turn to a direct hit from the Russian 50mm mortar. The Germans pulled back and the Russians made good use of cover to approach the buildings with the tanks. A hit by the remaining Marder resulted in a kill and then two tanks malf'd their guns and one became immobilised. The Russians called it at this stage.
2020-09-12 | (A) Shaun Andrews | vs | Jeff Buser | Russian win
2020-09-12 | (D) Jeff B | vs | Shaun Andrews | Russian win | The Germans have to knock out at least two of the Russian tanks before they lose their Marders. I knocked out one. After this the Germans just do not have enough bodies to prevent a sleaze freeze bum rush, which is exactly what happened. Not a very fun defensive scenario.
2020-04-07 | (A) Juan Garrido | vs | SOLO | Russian win
2019-07-20 | (A) Bob Davis | vs | Steven Miller | German win | It was a dicey game.
2019-07-06 | (A) Rich Weiley | vs | Simon Shields | Russian win | Paddington Bearz - July 2019. I think this Simon's first game of full ASL (or near to it).
2016-12-31 | (D) David Garvin | vs | Craig Stark | German win | My Marders did a fantastic job. The one with the AFV leader got hull down. As his KVs entered from afar, I took some long range shots and scored a hit on the first KV, maintaining rate. The shot ended up knocking out that KV but the crew survived. The next came along and my Marder with the AFV leader scored a critical hit and tore it to pieces. With two tanks out of action to start the game, Craig was in a bad spot. His other tanks took the long way around and one ended up in the sights of my Marder with the AFV leader. I scored a hit, but the TK roll missed him by 1. He failed the TC and ended up Stun. He failed to recover, becoming at first UK and then failed that. With one tank left (and most of his infantry), my Marders were free to assist in stopping them. As it turned out, I got another critical hit on his troops in the trees, and the subsequent IFT roll was *another* 2 for a net 5 KIA, I believe. We called it there. My dice were hot and in spite of Craig's use of terrain, I was able to stop the Red Tide.

2014-05-10 | (A) Andy Beaton | vs | Richard Hooks | German win | Germans had hot dice and killed every KV they could see without ever taking a return shot. Russian infantry mangled the German infantry pretty bad, but without the tanks, they couldn't reach the numbers required.

2013-01-07 | (A) Simon Staniforth | vs | Russian win
2012-08-15 | (A) Jeff T | vs | Jerry | Russian win | I came in with the Russian KVs staying in motion on the orchard road. One KV did an armored assault with 2 squads and a 9-0 Commissar figuring that this infantry group would be enough to meet the exit VP requirements. The Russians need 17 exit VP which is two KV and 3 infantry points (required). My mortar broke some Germans in the wood and my 9-1 Russian leader and 2 squads moved up into the woods to try to exploit. Jerry was on Level 1 of two buildings guarding that side of the board. This one was wild with the Marders getting shots in turn 2 on two KVs. They both were shocked but they couldn't score a kill despite 5 hits on one and 3 on the other. Of course, both KVs came back in Turn 3 rally and the first killed a Marder while the second missed. The mortar crew had moved and took aim at the last Marder. A nice ROF tear got 3 or 4 shots on the open top vehicle, twice missing kills by one but causing 2MC. The crew stunned and further KV fire on the remaining German infantry broke them and left them no hope for rally. It ended on turn 3 as I had enough infantry close enough with 2 unmoved KVs to exit. A quick and deadly affair that could have easily swung Jerry's way with some better To Kill rolls. As it was, a nice ending to a great evening of ASL.

2010-08-23 | (D) Allen Evenson | vs | Roberto Chavez | German win | Germans had some luck early. Was still a tight win.
2010-08-15 | (A) Rami Saarinen | vs | Miquel Mendoza | Russian win | Germans got diced out quite badly. Nice scenario though.
2010-06-13 | (D) David Ramsey | vs | Alessandro Massignani | German win | (With German Balance) - good shooting from the Marders and the HMG got the mortar early on. Still think this is tough for the Germans - I got very lucky against an inexperienced player, but it could have been a Russian win had my opponent known BU marders can't fire.
2010-03-20 | (A) Jeff T | vs | JVan | Draw | We screwed up and misplayed the scenario, so no result. Looks like a fun little scenario. The Marders had good success against the KVs. We'll try it again some time.
