On New Guinea, the Japanese had been slowly advancing on the Kokoda Trail. The Allies’ Maroubra Force had been forced back to prepared positions at Deniki. The Australian militiamen preformed a three-company counterattack which recaptured Kokoda and its vital airfield – but ths success proved short-lived when on the next day the Japanese assaulted Deniki. . .
Attacker: Japanese (1st Battalion, 144th Infantry Regiment)
Defender: Australian (B and C Companies, 39th Battalion / 1st Papuan Infantry Battalion)
ASL 60 (On The Kokoda Trail): Add a 6-4-8 to the at-start Allied OB. Add a 7-0 to the Allied reinforcements. (The Allied BI BPV number changes from [121] to [135].) In SSR 5, add "Field Promotion (A18.) is NA," after "Captured,".

Played with no balance. Japanese made most of their morale checks and the Australians failed most of theirs. Made a last ditch charge for some close combat, but my leaders got pinned and the game ended in a whimper. Great fight, but I would give the Australians the balance.

A win to break a five game loosing streak! Although this scenario is a bit like shooting fish in a barrel. We added the errata, which favoured the Australians, and gave the Australians the balance, but the Japanese still had the game wrapped up by game turn 6. Eric conceded after throwing in a counter attack that caught three of my units at a 2-1 disadvantage in CC. He failed all three attacks, including the one with the 9-2 leader.knowing that I could then move around the melees with immunity in my next player turn, and that he was likely to loose units in H-t-H melee in my CC phase, the chances of moving across open ground to drive me out of the victory area were very slim indeed.

Japs walked it in by turn 5. Aussies barely slowed their advance. Am I playing the defensive abilities of Entrenchments in jungles wrong?

We did not add the overlays! We used a prepared VASSAL logfile and the overlays were not in the correct folder, and we did not notice! Anyway, HtH slugfest and easy Japanese win.

Broke one of the lines of Defence including some lucky HtH and got behind the survivers with most of the force intact and the other line of defence, turned both flanks and ready to do the same. Drove troops into Victory area for the win
