This took me far too long to get around to, but password resets and forgotten user ids (providing you remember the email address you registered with) are now working. Hopefully!

Apologies for the delay in getting this completely sorted. I'm now on a fully hosted platform so if you're seeing this message you know you're connecting to the most up-to-date version of the archive. Sorry for the interruption, but carry on enjoying the site now :-)

Sorry about that... I moved houses and knew there'd be a lapse in internet availability, but that was more problematic than I'd imagined. Anyway - slowly getting back to normal - there'll be some additional outages over the next day or so as my line speed is being upgraded - but hopefully that will see us back to normal again.

Sorry if I haven't been able to respond to any requests over the last few weeks, I have a little more time now - but I'm still in the boxes everywhere stage of house moves, so it might be a week or so before things really settle down.

Thanks for your patience!

Cream of the CropI wonder how many games actually use the two flanking boards? There is time to use them but, for my part, I chose to attack straight up the gut. Even without multi-levels, there are a lot of building locations to control (41 to be exact) and neither side has much to spare. Once the Russian tanks came onboard German maneuvering was even more limited. This made for a rather static midgame that felt like a Red Barricades CG. Despite only having one good order tank, momentum shifted to the Germans when the middle tank of the Russian platoon fell into a cellar. A very good Turn 6 saw them increase their lead to 24:17 and the Russians felt that was too much to overcome so they conceded. buser333
The Commissar's HouseAnother close run on this scenario. Lee mentioned he's played it a lot, and I can see why. There's a lot of room for different approaches on both the offense and the defense. On this run, I set up with reasonably strong deployments on both my flanks. I also deployed two 447s and a dummy in FF7, Z7, and R7. My intent was to make the Germans deploy slightly backward, push them into the center to rob them of safe rout paths, and buy as much time as possible before Lee got a full surround on Z3. The first turn or two went reasonably well. I broke some units, and my one 628 squad in the chemist's house held out for longer than I thought he would. Around turn 3 though, my left collapsed pretty hard. Troops still managed to fall back in reasonably good order, but Lee snagged a lot of prisoners. Around turn 4, there was another big collapse, this time on my right. Lee maintained his characteristic aggressiveness, and by turn 5 there was a lot of German troops on both sides of the road looking in at the Z3 line of buildings. Unfortunately, over the next two or three turns, Lee's attack stalled out. There were a few clutch rolls on my side that I managed to make, and a few on Lee's that went very badly. It wouldn't have been so crushing, but it was right on the turn before a bunch of sewer troops found their way into Z3, reinforcing what had been a pretty weak ground floor. After a few more turns of assaults, Lee called it. Allister01
Beyond the PakfrontsPoor early luck missed killing 4 half tracks with TK of 8 or better during the preview session. Lost my ATG to OBA and lmg to OVR. Tanks made up for it when opponent was not quite in good enough position for their entry. nebel

This site is fantastic. Thanks to you I'm discovering I have scenarios in old wargaming magazines that I didn't even know about. Kudos! Mark H.
Great site! I used CoW for years, and this is even better - thanks! Vic L., Vandalia OH, ASL since 91
